You don’t need a vast amount of clothes to be well dressed for work, formal occasions and your everyday casual activities. The important thing is to rotate your clothes, shoes and accessories on a daily basis to allow your clothes to rest between wearing. The number of items quoted on the basic wardrobe checklist infographic below is the minimum requirement to ensure you are well dressed at all times.
Don’t kick yourself if you don’t have all of the items quoted on the infographic – this doesn’t mean you can’t be a well dressed man. Instead, let it act as a buying guideline for future purchases.
It’s also important to note that some of these items are better suited to specific environments. I wouldn’t recommend a scarf for someone living in a hot climate, same applies to a coat. Simply adapt the wardrobe checklist to your current environment.
I do, however, recommend a kaftan. It’s one of those items that can be worn with tailored trousers or jeans – they’re versatile and can be dressed up or down to suit the occasion. Kaftan’s come in different shapes, sizes and colours and will be an interesting addition to your wardrobe if you don’t have one already. I don’t have as much of these as I’d like, but I’m working towards adding a few more to my closet.
While building your wardrobe, ensure that all forms of shirts (casual and formal), suits and trousers, coordinate within your colour palette. Do you have all of these in your wardrobe arsenal? What item is your top priority?
